At the age of 66, Bo Derek has shared her reasons for deciding against having children. The actress, known for her role in “Bolero,” explained that her unconventional and chaotic life made it difficult for her to envision being a parent.
Derek expressed her belief that children deserve the opportunity to have two committed parents. However, she admitted that her own life was too unpredictable to provide the stability necessary for raising a child. “There were times I wouldn’t even have a dog because my life was so crazy, let alone a child,” Derek confessed.
Surprisingly, Derek never intended to become an actress. She had envisioned a more laid-back future, possibly working in a surf shop. But when the opportunity to enter the entertainment industry presented itself, she found it overwhelming. Despite receiving tempting offers, Derek declined and chose not to pursue a career in acting.
Derek was previously married to actor John Derek, and they were together from 1976 to 1998. Since 2002, she has been in a committed relationship with actor John Corbett. The couple has no plans to have children of their own. However, Derek did mention the possibility of adoption in the future. She believes that adopting a child is within their reach and something they may consider.
The couple has not rushed into marriage either, and starting a family has not been a topic of discussion for them. In an interview with Fox News, Derek emphasized that while starting a young family and creating a new family tree branch is a meaningful commitment, it simply hasn’t been part of their lives yet.
When asked about their relationship, Derek described it as wonderful, citing “attraction” and “comfort” as the key elements that drew them together. She also highlighted John Corbett’s ability to make her laugh and his vibrant, joyful personality. According to Derek, their relationship continues to thrive and make them feel at home, little by little.
Bo Derek’s decision not to have children is a personal one, influenced by her unconventional life and desire for stability. While she believes in the importance of two committed parents for children, she recognizes that her own circumstances make it challenging to provide that consistency. Derek and John Corbett continue to enjoy their committed relationship without the pressures of starting a family, leaving open the possibility of adoption in the future.
