FedEx Driver Involved in Shooting Acted in Self-Defense

In a recent incident that occurred on the 600 block of Unruh Avenue, a FedEx driver found himself in a life-threatening situation. Police have revealed that the driver, a 32-year-old individual, had a legally registered firearm, which he used in an act of self-defense.

According to Philadelphia Police Department Capt. Jason Smith, the driver was delivering a package when an armed robber approached him, stole his wallet and keys, and then proceeded to shoot him. Remaining calm and composed, the driver retaliated by firing back at the assailant, who was later identified as 27-year-old Jevan Lundy.

Lundy was later found unresponsive on the 1400 block of Creston Street and was pronounced dead at Einstein Medical Center. The victim’s FedEx ID card was recovered from the crime scene, indicating that Lundy targeted the driver with malicious intent.

Following the incident, another man was found in the company of Lundy. Police believe that this individual was involved in transporting Lundy away from the scene of the crime. While this man was taken in for questioning, it is unclear whether he is facing any charges. Police Captain Smith stated that the individual denies any involvement in the robbery.

Despite suffering a gunshot wound to his stomach, the brave FedEx driver was able to drive away from the scene. He was found slumped over the steering wheel of his truck at an Acme parking lot on the 6600 block of Oxford Avenue. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the driver had a legally registered 9mm handgun and a permit to carry inside his truck. This evidence supports the driver’s claim of acting in self-defense.

Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter stated, “Based on the preliminary story that was relayed, it appears to be self-defense: he was shot first, he fired back.” The driver, described as a “nice guy” by a resident in the neighborhood, has gained support from the community. Many are praying for his recovery and well-being.

As for FedEx’s stance on this incident, the company has refused to comment on whether they have a policy regarding drivers being armed. However, they did emphasize that the safety of their team members and service providers is a top priority and that they are fully cooperating with the investigating authorities.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of personal safety and the right to self-defense. It highlights the need for individuals, especially those in high-risk professions such as delivery drivers, to take precautions to protect themselves.
